It is widely adapted to most regions of North America and is very hardy and resistant to scald and tip burn. Bred by Associated Seed Growers, Inc., New Haven, Connecticut, 'Great Lakes 118' was introduced in 1948.
Great lakes is a heirloom iceberg type lettuce that produces large, crinkled leaves which form a dense head in the center. This is a popular and easy to grow variety that is slow to bolt to seed.
